This book provides a means of improving the performance of a manufacturing facility based on environmental compliance and potential for profitability. This allows the reader to evaluate materials and processes based on costs for operations and environmental impact.  The approach is wide in scope recognizing key organizational functions such as marketing, product design, manufacturing technology, manufacturing management, and human resources.  Active involvement from members of each of these functional groups is essential to create a manufacturing facility and then maintain it as an ongoing “green” operation. The role and responsibility of each of these groups are discussed to enable both non-technical and technical readers to apply techniques and methods for creating a green manufacturing facility to their own enterprise.  Also included is a case study of a North Carolina manufacturing company that is a profitable supplier to the automotive industry which illustrates how the organization carries out its responsibilities using techniques and methods described in the preceding chapters of the book.
