Sacred Sea: A Journey to Lake Baikal

Sacred Sea is a work of nonfiction. That is, other than those sections in which something is clearly imagined, everything in this book actually happened. In fact, even some of the imagined parts actually happened, such as the underwater encounter with the Baikal seal, which is based on an actual encounter with a seal in the Pacific Ocean off California's Catalina Island.

This book is also a work of journalism. Quotes and dialogue are taken from recorded interviews, notes, or, very rarely, clear recollections. Assertions of fact are based on personal observation or research drawing from a wide array of sources, all of which are listed at the back of the book. And with the exception of my ex-wife and a very few other peripheral characters, the names and details of all people the reader will encounter are real.
