This text book on Finnish Words is recommended to learners who have read one of Heikura's Grammar books either in English, Finnish or Russian, or who otherwise know how the Finnish language is and how to use a dictionary. All Finnish words contain one or more meaningful syllables , and new words are formed by adding syllables and by binding words together. In this book learners are offered a sample collection of word families whose members are marked with "a common fault" like a consonant gradation, for which reason longer words seem to have lost their common origin and alphabetical order in dictionaries. Translations are not given from Finnish to English or any other language. Thus learners must consult their dictionaries or ask Finnish people for help and explanations to understand the meanings. Finnish words are a subject about which Finns in general are eager to start talking.
