The objective of the study was to rationalise, co-ordinate and bring up the importance of effectiveness in communication field in Fortum's Oil Refining Business Unit so that business’ writers are able to write shorter, clearer, more understandable and more condense documents and, because of that, use less time for both reading and writing. The saved time can be utilised more productively. In addition, the purpose was to increase the efficiency to utilise the organisational formats, both the current and the new ones as well as to utilise the technology available more effectively. One goal of the rationalisation also is to increase the general job satisfaction.
A qualitative case study was used to solve the research problems. Discussion on the e- communication theories as well as an analysis on the Fortum's Oil and Gas Business Unit's internal communication based on these theories was also used as a method.
Thus, the research method used was a qualitative case study. The data of this study is mainly based on the target organisation's internal e-communication activities.
An unexpectedly great deal of characteristics and features presented in the used theories occurred in the target organisation as well. So, their suggestions to increase the efficiency of e-communication can be widely utilised.
The actions presented are general enough to be utilised in other organisations, too.
