The integration phase is always a challenge, whether it is about obtaining a new unit by acquisition, a merger, reorganizing different departments or units of a company or building up an in-depth partnership. Several studies show that the financial expectations are not met in up to 50 - 60% of mergers. The goal of the M & A 1.0 Integration workbook is to facilitate success in the integration.
The M & A Integration workbook is designed to ease the work of business management and specialists in the planning and implementation of integration. It helps keep in mind the numerous issues that have to be taken into account. The project behind the book revealed that there are many case studies about mergers and acquisitions but no general model was found either in literature or in real life.
The workbook consists of two main parts: models and theories involved in M & A deals and change implementation and checklists consisting of questions and details to be confronted in the integration. The lists are divided in to three main groups: management in charge, overall process, integration process management and function specific items. The checklists can also be used as a neutral platform for both parties of the merger. The workbook reminds the reader WHAT needs to be done during the integration process. However, it is the reader who decides HOW things are done in every specific situation.
