The Sculptor's Story (The Tale of a Virgin)

Aldrich’sThe Sculptor's Story is the tale of two friends who love the same woman and the Arts. The beautiful young girl marries the protagonist, but she platonically and secretly loves the other one. The wedding day the groom discovers that his trust was betrayed. He leaves the young girl without ever having touched her, putting infinite distance between them. He will never see her again. On the day of the tenth anniversary of their marriage he goes back on the hill where he had discovered her in the arms of the man she considered a close friend of him and, having found his inner peace, he honours her watching over her tomb, carved in white marble as a mausoleum. In that place so full of memories he meets his friend who finally can tell him the story of his feelings for the sweet and fragile creature, who died long ago because of a broken heart. There, after his reconciliation with life, he says goodbye to the woman he loved and to his lost friend.
